Next time someone tells me that Mozilla has a lot of money (and we certainly do, compared to most Open-Source / Free software projects), explain as usual that it's not a lot compared to most technology companies. Actually, Mozilla revenue numbers for 2006 (66.8 millions US dollars) is less that Google's budget for free food for US employees, which is $72,000,000 per year.

Poor mozilla, only 66.8 millions US dollars... Sure, compared to the best IT society (no argue about Microsoft, SAP or any else damnware, please), it's really few, but, compared to the rest of the world, also in IT society, what's more for a software company, it's a good number...
Since we are talking about money and mozilla, what about inviting freely CaCert as the first major open Certificate Authority to join the CertificateAuthorities in Mozilla Firefox ? (tools, options, cipher, certificates, authorities...).
I think that a lot of people would be pleased to know why there isn't any free CA in Mozilla Firefox right now

This is a horrible argument, and in fact it IS a lot compared to MOST technology companies. Its just less than the really successful "tech" companies.
Just say, "Yes we do, and we're using it to do <blank>." Then list something good you're doing with it. If there is nothing, then you have a problem.

@jop: about CaCert, please read comments on https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_b... to understand why it isn't in Mozilla.
>it's a good number
Yes, it's a good number compared to most of opensource project, but don't forget one thing : is there an other open-source project which should pay more than hundred people to work on the project ?

I don't know how you can knowingly cite a figure for a food budget that assumes that Google spends $30 per day for food per employee...

$66.8 millions, it is really few if you convert it in euro

Google has a bit more workers than Mozilla, that makes it fairly stupid.

More important than comparing it to Google's food budget is comparing Mozilla's revenue against the revenue of it's primary competition. Microsoft made $51+ billion in 2007. Apple made $24+ billion in 2007.
So, Mozilla's revenue is approximately 13/100ths of 1% of the company it's challenging and 28/100ths of 1% of the company that's challenging it.
Mozilla is in a most un-enviable revenue position when considering the space in which it's competing. Fortunately for us, and thanks to our amazing community, we punch well above our weight.

John, you're probably right. $30/day per employee seems really low. I'd wager that it's much closer to $35/day if you include gourmet coffee, sodas and other drinks along with breakfast, lunch, and dinner meals.
